My experience with the hotel internship was good. I learned how the front of the restaurant works and the back of the restaurant. I was mainly in the accounting department because I am interested in pursuing accounting as my career path. I got to work with everyone and learned what each person had to do and how they did it. I learned that the accounting department has a very professional atmosphere. It was a great experience because I wouldn’t have had that experience anywhere else. I was given a lot of advice about going to college especially majoring in accounting.

This year, my experiences in hospitality services were so important because I learned more about how the program can help me in the future. I experienced more of the “behind the scenes” areas of the hotels where I worked, and the different aspects of each one.

I worked in two different hotels — a Hilton and a Sheraton. At the Hilton, I learned so much about the kitchen, restaurant, banquets and housekeeping. My favorite area was banquets because it is really focused on client service. The banquets manager showed us some tips that can help us in the future. At the Sheraton, I learned about areas like the front desk, engineering and accounting. We were taught about professionalism and all the areas it can apply.

Another great experience was our tour of Southwest Airlines. We met many people who explained how they use hospitality in their services, and they also showed us many different areas of the airline business.

Overall, this was a great experience for me because I now know more all of the careers and job skills I would need to pursue a career in hospitality.

My experience in hospitality services this year has been amazing. Having the chance to not only see what the hospitality industry does, but actually interning and working in the industry has given me a whole new perspective.

The Travel & Sports Legacy Foundation has also been a big help for our class. One of my favorite things to do this year was visiting the Southwest Airlines headquarters and seeing how they use hospitality in their everyday work experiences. That was only possible due to The Travel & Sports Legacy Foundation setting up the tour for our class.

Overall, hospitality has opened a big gateway and helped me see how I want to shape my future.
